Introduction to Lachlan Buirds, Managing Director

Since he joined Haworth Castings back in May as Managing Director, Lachlan Buirds has brought an inexhaustible energy, enthusiasm and ambition to the business.

With over 20 years of experience in manufacturing and engineering, Lachlan has a wealth of knowledge across a broad spectrum of sectors, including automotive, aerospace, and oil and gas.

He joined us from TW Metals, part of O’Neal Steel company in the USA, where for four years he was Head of Operations in Europe, tasked with carrying out operational and system improvements across sites in the UK, France, Italy and Poland. “A major part of the job at TW Metals was to fine-tune the existing capacity by removing inefficiency and putting the right machinery and software to work,” said Lachlan. “Once in place, we could really start to drive on-time delivery, quality and growth, key elements that I will be focussing on in my new role at Haworth Castings.”

Building on solid foundations

Over the years, Haworth Castings has built an enviable reputation for quality and customer service across its casting, machining and finishing operations. Following the retirement of Andrew Haworth, who successfully ran the business for over 14 years, new owners Expromet Technologies Group were looking for a leader with an extensive background in leading manufacturing teams, who could build on the company’s solid foundations.

“Lachlan brings the exact skill set and experience we were looking for, both for Haworth Castings and the wider group,” commented Alistair Schofield, Chief Executive of Expromet Technologies Group. “He is passionate about customer service and continuous improvement and has already developed a clear vision of how he can develop the business both technically and operationally to add even greater value for our customers.”

Integral to Lachlan’s vision is investing in the business to further improve product quality and flow and to introduce new technologies such as scanning software and 3D printing capabilities.

Not one to “wait and see”, Lachlan has spent the last six months out and about, visiting customers to better understand their needs and discover how targeted investments can really benefit their businesses.

Lachlan also strongly believes in working closely with sister company Investacast, to harness complementary casting and machining capabilities, and offer a wide range of world class engineering and supply chain solutions to customers on a global basis.

Originally from Pembrokeshire, Lachlan now lives with his family in Lymington, Hampshire.
